How To Buy Books At A 10 % Discount Off Amazon.com Prices

NEWSFLASH: AMAZON.COM IS GREEDY!

There's a little known shopping tip that shows why marketing and branding work even when it's not in the best interest of the customer. . . Almost everyone "knows" that Amazon.com is the place to go for buying books cheap online.

Unless you're in a rush and need to pick up the book locally at
Borders Books, Barnes and Nobles, or other local bookseller, you know that you can get the same exact book for the lowest price by ordering online at Amazon.com, right? NOPE.

AMAZON.COM DOES NOT PASS ON THE MAXIMUM SAVINGS TO IT'S CUSTOMERS

Amazon.com is NOT the cheapest place to get books online. And I'm not talking about "sales" on select books or categories, or temporary price cuts. I'm talking about everyday pricing, where you can consistently find the cheapest prices for books. But you CAN go to another reputable online bookseller that's consistently cheaper than Amazon.com on over 900,000 books in the catalog.

Would You Like To Know Who Is The Cheapest Source For Books Online and Offline?

Cheaper than Amazon.comBuy.com. While it's better known for cheap electronics, Buy.com actually has a huge catalog of books that are priced at 10% off Amazon.com prices on almost 1 million books. So there's no reason to buy from Amazon.com anymore, unless you like giving your money away.

Yes, A Way To Get 10% Off Amazon Prices + ADDITIONAL Discounts!

And as an added bonus, if you want to search a little, you can usually find online coupons and promo codes for Buy.com that you can apply which really makes leaving Amazon.com sensible.

Here's a sampling of current promotions that you can use to create bigger discounts and save more money on books.

  • Buy.com Coupons

  • Buy.com Coupons

  • Buy.com Coupons

Penny-Pinching, Money-Grubbing College & Grade School STUDENTS Can Save Hundreds of Dollars
The other BIG fact that most online shoppers don't know or forget is that these online booksellers also sell all the major textbooks too. In fact, they sell both new AND USED Textbooks!
So you don't have to be ripped off by the campus bookstore anymore. I remember one year, I paid over $1000 for books at the campus bookstore (yes, yes, it was my parents who "paid", but I still signed that credit card receipt!). Imagine keeping more than $100 in my pocket to spend on other things...Just don't forget about Buy.com and Amazon's textbook store when you're doing your drop/add of classes each semester!

Where is the Amazon mp3 Music Download Service?

Yesterday's Wall Street Journal article really caught my eye. The article, "Music ServiceFrom AmazonTakes On iTunes" covered the hype over the iTunes killer announced by Amazon this week. There were rumblings that Jeff Bezos was courting the music industry several months ago, trying to piece together this ultimate business model - selling digital content that millions of iPod users could use - mp3 music downloads. mp3's are the perfect product - no inventory, immediate revenue, easy fulfillment, unlimited stock of each product, small file sizes which translate to fast downloads and a great user experience.

Hype can be hype, so I tried to see for myself if Amazon really has a chance over Apple's iTunes.com, but I couldn't find it at all.

Where is Amazon's mp3 Music Download Service you ask? The answer: they "PLAN" to do it, it's not available yet! That's now "news," that's the future! What about now? today?

Here's some things that are relevant to you TODAY:

  • Amazon "announced it" not "opened the store to the public": Every song and album in the Amazon.com digital music store will eventually be available exclusively in the MP3 format without digital rights management (DRM) software. But NO date is set for this service. It's a PLANNED service, not a reality yet!

  • Amazon.com Does Offers Free Music Downloads TODAY: Don't be fooled by the limited offerings on the "Free Music Downloads" page. USE THE SEARCH FEATURE to find music tracks you can download. TIP: search for category of music (jazz, christian, rock, etc) or artist or keywords (like instruments, genre, etc).

  • As the WSJ states, just like Amazon's announced service, "eMusic sells only MP3s that are almost universally playable" which means any iPod and all other mp3 players. By the way, eMusic has the largest number of subscribers for it's type of online music service.

  • The Wall Street Journal also pointed out that "eMusic. . .can work out to as little as 25 cents a song". If you want to save as much as 75% off Apple's prices for mp3 songs with less restrictions than iTunes yet can still be used with iPods, try eMusic.

  • eMusic gives you free credits for your choice of 25 free mp3 songs to download immediately.

Just like the old commercial shouting the urgency, "I want my MTV!". I want my MP3...TODAY, not next year.

4-Eyes Underwater: Prescription Goggles for Swimming

We're off to our spring vacation in a week and it's going to be somewhere warm south of the border for sure with lots and lots of pools in the resort. Since I wear glasses, swimming has been a pain in the neck because I either had to swim basically blind underwater or I wore my glasses while wading around and would put them on the side of the pool whenever I wanted to swim a lap or two. The problem was that I was always worried that someone would STEP on them or kick them in the pool by accident and I'd be blind for the rest of the day...or week...until I got a replacement set of eyeglasses.

But last summer, I found out that there are prescription swimming googles that are pre-manufactuered with different prescription strengths. Basically, like the "reading glasses" that you see on sale at CVS that come in pre-manufactured strengths, but this time, they're goggles! Awesome.

So I just picked-up a pair of Speedo corrective lens goggles on Amazon for our trip. My previous pair of Body Glove ones were ok -- the where black and had the corrective lenses which were great. But the downside was that they were NOT anti-fog lenses. While they cost the same as the new ones I just ordered on Amazon.com, they used to fog up all the time.

I'm soooo looking forward to swimming with the Speedo goggles to arrive.

I also learned something about prescriptions. In order to figure out what DIOPETER I had to order (strength), I found a quick formula to calculate it based on my regular glasses prescriptions:

SPHERE + (0.5 x Cylinder) = DIOPETER for goggles
i.e. -3.25 + (1/2 -2.5) = -4.5

Although my left I is weaker, I'm ordering the strength for the lesser strength needed of the two eyes to minimize strain on the eyes. Some companies recommend that you buy one pair of prescription goggles for each eye and put one lens from each together to make a "custom" pair that is closer to what your eyes really need. You'd have to check the actual model to see if they come apart easily (the straps of course come off easily usually, it's the middle plastic connector that you have to be worried about). But from my experience last year with the BodyGlove swimming goggles, I don't need to mix and match.
